Dear Mr. President,
On May 31st 2013 Police Force of Istanbul launched an unprovoked attack on peaceful protesters which caused a public outcry and civil unrest. During the protests Turkish Police used excessive force on unarmed protesters of all ages.
It is deeply concerning that remarks by officials and leaders of the police force show no remorse and offer no reconciliatory tone following these well documented atrocities. In addition, the staggering number of people detained given the regimes’ less than stellar history on upholding human rights and freedom of speech gives us a reason to believe that there may be additional and more sinister attacks coming upon Turkish people in the days ahead.
In order to isolate the Turkish Police Force in the world stage and to rebuke their authoritarian tactics we submit this petition to immediately freeze all weapons, technology, communication and training transfer from the United States of America to the Turkish Police Force.
Support this petition to stop the transfer of
• Tear gas launchers and supplies
• Water cannons and riot vehicles
• Wiretapping equipment
• Computer systems
• Communications equipment
• Specialized Training
to the brutal Turkish Police
