Urge San Diego to Approve the City's First Comprehensive Homeless Shelter

    1. Petition by

      Daniel Jensen

      Los Angeles, CA

On July 14th, 2010, San Diego's Land Use and Housing Committee voted in support of a downtown shelter that would offer the one-stop convenience of a mall (if a mall were designed to help people move off the streets): mental health care, a job center, a health clinic, homelessness prevention services, a beauty salon and living space for up to 225 people.

The facility, known as Connections Housing, would be the city's first permanent shelter and be run by the non-profit agency PATH (People Assisting The Homeless).  Judging by the success of the PATHMall in Los Angeles — which will serve as a model for San Diego — the approach to combating homelessness would be an effective one.

The proposal for the homeless rehabilitation is now scheduled to go before the full City Council. Tell San Diego's City Council to vote in favor of the Connections Housing proposal and help ensure that the city's homeless community has the resources they need to find permanent housing.

We visit San Diego at least twice a year and it is a beautiful city, but there is a definite homeless problem and the sad part is that many of the homeless are veterans. There needs to be a way to help these men and keep them off of the streets.

The ONLY problem with this is it's not large enough, but this is a great step towards helping those among us who need help the most. This will be a proud endeavor for the city for other cities to follow & the best idea I have heard yet for REAL help for the needy.

I take my hat off, salute, bow, kirtsy & wave to the creator of this as a true compassionate soldier of God.

Please vote in favor of the Connections Housing proposal and help ensure that the city's homeless community has the resources they need to find permanent housing and the resources to support other needs. Homelessness is a cruel disgrace to our city and nation, and our humanity.

NO ZONING!!! zoning causes homelessness and denies free markets.
