Urge DHS To Grant Deferred Enforced Departure and Temporary Protected Status For Libya

On March 19, 2011, the United States along with France and the United Kingdom, launched attacks on Libyan defensive infrastructure and ground forces.

While the country is at war with Libya, Libyan students and foreign nationals in the United States are still subject to removal to the warzone. Visitors and students are especially vulnerable as they have to abide by visa regulations and return to Libya. Between a popular uprising and escalated military actions against the Gaddafi regime, it is probably not safe for Libyans to return to the country at this time.

Please join us in urging the Obama administration to grant a deferral of enforced departure for all Libyan nationals, and temporary protected status to stop the removal of any Libyan nationals to Libya until it is safe to do so.

I work for the DHS in Colorado and I am advocating for 22 families who are graduate students at my local college here in Golden.

These families are our neighbors and valuable members of our community. They need our help and support right now in this time of desperate need.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (which the US lead and supported) declares in Article 14 that " Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution"... do we stand behind our stated values? How do we choose to use our position as global leaders?

I understand that the USCIS has alot of responsibilities, but I wish they can find time to help us as Libyan students who are in the bad situation where we can't finish our schools and can't go back home.
