      La Jolla, CA

WHEREAS, Ocean View Terrace (OVT), located in Marshall College, currently operates as an “all-you-care-to-eat” dining hall; and,

WHEREAS, OVT previously operated as an “a-la-carte” style dining hall; and,

WHEREAS, OVT’s “all-you-care-to-eat” style was implemented in the summer without sufficient student input; and,

WHEREAS, OVT was used as a study spot and communal space for students who live on campus as well as students who commute; and,

WHEREAS, The HDH department works to promote efficiency, convenience and hospitality; and,

WHEREAS, the limited hours of OVT are not convenient to students who have specific schedules as well as students with alternative dietary needs; and,

WHEREAS, the quality of food provided by the buffet style is not improved from last year’s; and,

WHEREAS, the amount of dining dollars allocated to students are not a sufficient amount nor sustainable with the prices that OVT demands per meal from students; and

WHEREAS, the inconvenience of OVT’s limited hours has affected Goody’s Market by creating longer lines and impacting the variety of food conveniently available to students;

LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the undersigned are against the implementation of buffet style at Ocean View Terrace and strongly urges HDH to change OVT’s service back to swipe per item no later than Fall Quarter of the 2013-2014 academic year.

      It's a truth universally known that food is sustenance.

      OVT's small, overpriced portions are nowhere near sustainable for the average UCSD student's wallet and stomach.

      It's just way too expensive and not good enough to merit the cost. When we only get about $12 a day to spend on food, we can't spend all of that on a single meal. Also, it's not in a central enough location to get everyone to go. You're torturing the Marshall students, and no one else wants to make the long trip just to eat in one small corner of campus either.
