Include each nation's top 3 ranked women riders in World Championship

In cyclocross, there is a UCI rule in place to ensure that the elite men’s field has huge strength in depth, giving the top riders from each nation a set goal to aim for. Unfortunately there is no such rule for the women. Applying the same selection rule (UCI rule 9.2.045) to both men and women would allow more of the top 50 ranked riders to compete in the world championship, ensuring that the elite women's field has huge strength in depth and giving the top riders from each nation a set goal to aim for.

For more details, please see Helen Wyman's January 16, 2013 Op-Ed on VeloNews at http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/01/news/cyclocross/op-ed-simple-changes-needed-now-for-womens-louisville-worlds-field_271659

    1. Good news: Top 3 men AND women invited to CX Worlds

Hi everyone, remember this petition? Joyce Vanderbeken just posted this news on her Facebook page. It looks like top 3 men AND women from each country will be automatically named to the World Championship team, starting 2014. (The Top 50 ranking is still required.)

      Translated to English by Google:

I haven't traced the decision-making path, but the 1,800+ signatures showing overwhelming support for this ruling couldn't have hurt. THANK YOU and look forward to watching an even better World Championship race in 2014!

    4. 1,100 signatures overnight! Now what?

Wow. Huge response from everyone (1,119 ones as of this minute) means we have more than DOUBLED the original goal overnight. Cyclocross Magazine will be publishing a short blurb about this later today, and it seems like everyone is voraciously spreading the word.

I've also added pat.mcquaid@uci.ch (also found through a quick online search) to the mail-to list.

Next up, it's be great to receive a response from a UCI official. If anyone has contacts at the UCI, would you consider asking gently, "Hey, this petition has received over 1,000 signatures overnight. Have you read it? What do you think?" Or, if you have any other ways or ideas for getting in contact, or other ideas, please go for it or let us know.

Thanks all of the crazy momentum rally, everyone. Let's keep it going and push for a public response from the UCI.

This is important because I am a female in sports and I don't understand why the rules would be different for men than women.

Equality. This is 2013, it's ridiculous that women are still 2nd class with such a large disparity from the men.

The women train and race just as hard as the men.
