Hi Everyone, It appears this petition worked liked we had hoped it would. Thanks for the support and here is a message Coach Smith asked me to pass along to everyone. I do not really know where to begin. The thought of thanking such a large group of people is both humbling and overwhelming. That being said, I thank each and every one of you for taking the time to get in my corner over the last few weeks. I cannot really express to you how meaningful and impactful your actions were. To say the least, the 2012 lacrosse season stands as the most arduous in my coaching career. We, as a staff, faced many new challenges and made many changes. We never anticipated what was in store for us, however. Please know it was never my intention to involve any of you in the turmoil. We worked diligently to avoid the situation that inevitably developed and it was with a heavy heart that we sought support. Again, I had no idea what everyone had in mind in terms of support and I am completely blown away by your effort, time and kind words. Rest assured, I read every posting on the Change.org petition. It was great to see so many names of past players and students, family members, friends and colleagues in one place speaking up for North Lacrosse. As I read, I smiled, I beamed with pride, and I fell to tears on more than one occasion. I also have it on good authority that the petition made a positive impact. Thank you again, Matt, for taking the lead on that. To my family and friends I say thank you for the love, the support, for believing in me and putting up with my intermittent cantankerous ways. I cannot say enough how lucky I am for all of you. Thank you! I appreciate and love you all. To the North Lacrosse players: you guys made me so proud. Your words on the petition mean a great deal to me. You are clearly continuing to use your Heads, your Hearts and your Hustle. Thank you for letting me know that your time in the Blue and Gold, and the work you put into your lacrosse career at North were meaningful and impactful. However, your actions through all of this have done the same for me and I am eternally grateful. You are a special group of young men who are bound to do great things. Thank you for taking some time to get in my corner. It means so much to me and I will never forget it. I know so many of you made sacrifices and hard decisions to support me. So many parents of seasons past wrote, called and attended a very tiresome meeting. Your courage and conviction are most admirable and a fantastic lesson for all of us. From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every one of you for all you have done. You are true heroes in my eyes. I wish everyone a peaceful, relaxing summer. I hope the next time our paths cross is for purely happy circumstances. Thank You! Brett

Brett Smith is the best men's coach in this district. He teaches the boys on the team to be young men rather than boys who play lacrosse. He teaches his team about community, hard work, responsibility, and consequences to their actions. It would be an incredible loss to HSN if he were to be let go.

Coach Smith is by far one of the best men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I was his student and one of the managers of his lacrosse team for two years, and watched him coach. He was nothing but respectful to his players and the other managers. TRN lacrosse would not be the same without him.

I find it ridiculous and just as sad that a man with such integrity is put in a position like this. I have played 3 different sports for over 15 years of my life and I have never had a coach like mr.smith. He is someone who emphasized not only how to play the game of lacrosse but also how to carry yourself as a man. He is by far the best coach I ever had.

Coach Smith is an excellent coach and a person I am glad my 2 boys had the opportunity to play for. He taught them about dedication, commitment, and that hard work has its rewards. It is not only a sport that he taught our children at TRN, he also taught them a life lesson. In these days of pointing your finger in blame at everything else, we should some times look at people for the good things they offer.Good qualities come from all different places, and blaming others for thier own mistakes does not make any sense. Thank You Coach Smith

This would be a huge mistake removing Coach Smith from his position as head coach. He helped so many young boys turn into the men they are today, not only by his contribution on the lacrosse field, but off as well. By removing him would only hurt future generations to come since he would not be there for the guidance he has given to so many during his time at North.
