Over 26% of Americans suffer with mental health issues. Suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in 2010, but it remains as the 3rd leading cause of death among ages 15 to 24. It is the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 25 to 34. This is a health crisis, not some political side issue.
I started this petition because of my life long struggle with depression. Last year my diagnosis was upgraded to Major Depressive Disorder and General Anxiety Disorder. Finally, as a result of blatant hostility I suffered last year at work, I now suffer from constant twitches and muscle spasms including my diaphragm, the muscle that works the lungs.
So yes, this is a very real, physically tangible and personal issue to me. BUT, I am not alone. With 1 in 4 suffering from mental illness, everyone of us is either the patient, the friend, the relative, etc. of a victim.
If not for yourself, then for a loved one share this petition and encourage everyone you know to sign, share and advocate.
