My severely disabled, nonverbal son was nearly strangled to death on May 21 by a harness on his wheelchair that had been tightened grossly incorrectly taut around his throat. This neglectful, incompetent action caused my son to come off a 40 minute bus ride turning blue, not breathing well, petechiae on his face from the strain and strangulation marks embedded around his neck. He had to be subjected to a CT scan with contrast due to swallowing issues and pain. No one is taking responsibility. No one is admitting wrongdoing. And it appears no criminal charges will be filed. This must not happen to any other child! The responsible party/parties must be held accountable. This is a special needs school, so training has been done. What happened to my son was either neglect/child endangerment at the very least, and at the very worst, an intentional act of abuse. Our special needs children have only us parents as their voices. We will be heard in this case. Not only did I nearly lose my precious son, but he continues to suffer the physical consequences of this terrible injury. As well, I am left trying to figure out his educational plan for this Fall. The district should provide in home schooling and therapies for my son, as there is certainly no way he will be returning to this school or riding on a school bus again. Action is needed!

    1. Investigation closed!! It is up to us to see justice is done!

I was informed...not by the police department...but by a legal advocacy group here in Denver that the police department closed the case so it will not even go to the DA for review! The school disctrict is also not working to arrange homebound schooling for Brendan for this Fall. They will not phone back like they said they would. We need all the signatures possible to take this further, higher, and with a stronger voice to see that justice is served!

My grandson is a nonverbal severely disabled who rides a bus to and from school in Everett. He had issues with vomiting and aspiration pneumonia, because it was not noticed by the bus driver, no aide on board to help. His mother found this when he arrived home on the bus. The school district was forced to have a nurse or first aid trained aide on the bus at all times. Love you Jorden Lee Rothamel.
