Place Yvette Monet, Mirage Public Affairs, In Confinement For Human Education

I recently signed a petition regarding "No More Dolphins Swimming In Vegas."

This is the response I got from Yvette Monet, of the Mirage:

Thank you for asking about our dolphins. The Dolphin Habitat upholds the highest professional values for the care of our animals. The Habitat is a member of the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA), a well-respected international association dedicated to the conservation and protection of marine mammals and the members of our Habitat staff are each specially trained animal care experts.
Millions of children and adults visit the Habitat each year to enjoy an up-close and educational experience that creates an emotional bond between the guests and the dolphins – a connection that inspires our guests to care about the conservation of these animals in the wild, and the protection of the oceans in which they live.
It is important to note that none of the dolphins living at the Habitat came from Japan or any drive fishery. Additionally 70 percent of the dolphins in the US have been born at marine parks in the US .
Our facility undergoes comprehensive annual on-site inspections by the US Department of Agriculture and is in full compliance with all regulations.
Thank you again for writing.
Sincerely,
Yvette Monet

SINCE MS. MONET BELIEVES THAT IT IS PERFECTLY ALL RIGHT FOR DOLPHINS TO REMAIN SEPARATED FROM THEIR NATURAL HABITATS FOR HUMAN EDUCATION AND ENJOYMENT, I BELIEVE THAT A VERY COMFORTABLE, AND LARGE CAGE OR SIMILAR ARRANGEMENT, SHOULD BE CONSTRUCTED FOR MS. MONET.

THIS ALTERNATIVE LIVING ARRANGEMENT SHOULD BE AS HUMANE AS POSSIBLE AND SHOULD BE REGULATED TO ENSURE THAT ALL OF HER NEEDS ARE MET AS WELL AS THEY CAN BE IN AN ARTIFICIAL ENVIRONMENT.

I BELIEVE THAT SHE SHOULD RESIDE IN THIS CONFINED LIVING ARRANGEMENT, AND OBSERVED FOR THE PLEASURE OF THOUSANDS OF ADULTS AND CHILDREN WHO COULD VISIT HER EACH YEAR AND STUDY HER ACTIVITIES FOR HANDS-ON AND UP-CLOSE EXPERIENCES OF HER DAILY ROUTINE, ETC.

AFTER ALL, SHE SAYS IT IS OKAY FOR THE DOLPHINS. SHE NEEDS TO PRACTICE WHAT SHE PREACHES.

I sincerely believe that, following a short period of time in her comfortable confined space, that Ms. Monet will realize that, in fact, no matter how 'regulated' and 'comfortable' your living arrangement, there is in fact  NO SUBSTITUTION FOR YOUR NATURAL HABITAT!

THE PURPOSE OF THIS PETITION IS TO MAKE A STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE TO BE FORWARDED TO THE GOVERNOR OF NEVADA AND TO THE MIRAGE, TO INFORM THAT A CAPTIVE EXISTENCE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR EXISTENCE IN ONE'S NATURAL HABITAT!

There is absolutely excuse for keeping dolphins in a pool in a desert under the guise of education, when, really, the true motivation behind the dolphin confinement is money. I got a similar response from Ms. Monet to a personal letter I wrote to her. If there is even an ounce of compassion or humanity in the owners of Mirage, they would do the honorable thing and let the dolphins go free. It is absurd to use them in Las Vegas where there are so many alternatives available.
