Update--------------------------------------

It is no doubt that Animal Cruelty is a tremendous problem In Guyana. Dogs are the most common victims of what I would truly call hell on earth.  Animal Cruelty is so common In Guyana that it is overlooked and seen as an ‘’everyday thing’’ by many who don’t take the time to look deeper.

The Animals are innocent and don’t deserve to even witness such cruel treatment. I have witnessed dogs being hit on the road by drivers who had an opportunity to stop their car but refused to pay any attention, I’ve seen cases where animals were brutally stabbed, kicked and killed in horrific ways. What sense of feeling do we get torturing an Animal? I have been criticized previously for being an Animal Rights Activist although I am not a vegetarian, while I understand that I am not against killing Animals for food since we do not have enough food to feed the world’s population. What I am against is the Cruel killing methods. Animals are usually cut up alive or get necks broken which is extremely painful. Animals are supposed to be slaughtered with stun guns but this isn’t the case. Animals are beaten with steel rods or wood until they die. What I want to speak about are the Animals used as pets but are neglected and abused.

I am not here to force you into agreeing with me. I hope to build a common ground that we can agree on. Now many of you may be against Domestic Violence whether it is towards a wife, husband or child. You may ask yourself what domestic violence has to do with Animal Cruelty.  Remarkably it has a relation that is bigger than you would expect.

According to a study done by the ASPCA in New Jersey,  88 percent of families who reported physical abuse towards their children also reported signs of Animal Cruelty. It also showed that 85 percent of women who were abused also reported animal cruelty in the home. Now listen up and analyze, do you think it is a coincidence that the Domestic violence rate in Guyana is so high? It’s not a coincidence. Animal Cruelty starts at a much deeper level and doesn’t go alone.

The blame should be placed on the citizens of Guyana. This is how I see it. The adults and parents do not break the habit of abusing Animals; Based on the research done by the ASPCA it is very clear that a clear bond has been set between Domestic violence and Animal Cruelty. People tend to build courage to abuse fellow human by abusing Animals.

If that wasn’t enough information to convince you to care about animal cruelty then think about these:

-          How do you think tourist feel and react towards Guyana when they see the cases of animal cruelty?

-          Think about someone who is thinking of starting a business in Georgetown, Do you think that any business would want to open in an environment with cruel and unhealthy conditions?

-          Unhealthy animals can spread diseases and also make you sick if you’re bitten by them.

How can we reduce animal cruelty?

-Firstly we as a society can provide education on the humane treatment of animals

- We also need welfare laws to be enforced and the only way we will accomplish that is if we were to write letters to the editor create petitions and demand action from our politicians.

You can also take action yourself by:

-Reporting Animal Cruelty

- Donating money or time to animal rights organizations such as the Animal Angel Network.

- You can also encourage your family and friends to participate and create a chain reaction.

So think about it, If we all work together in these simple ways we can show that Guyana is a place where both people and animals are treated humanely. We can show the world that we treat all living things humanely. Wouldn’t that be a better Guyana for the world to look up to?

Thank you for listening and I hope I was able to provide some valuable information that will help you to change the future of the Animals for Guyanese.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guyana is a small country with only 750,000 people.

What I want is simple. I want the Government to spend a little more on Providing sanctuaries for Animals and updating and enforcing Animal Welfare laws.

dogs weighing over 25 pounds are killed with a ''humane pistol'' said a worker on the phone from GSPCA when questioned about it. In other words she meant a bolt pistol which was not designed to kill dogs . If you want your animal to be killed humanely you must pay $1500 but that price she said also varies according to weight of the dog.

The Government of Guyana wants to make tourism a big thing in this country. So let's ask the government to protect our wildlife and our domesticated animals.

I am an American and I truly love Guyana and hope for the best but something needs to be done about the 100's of animals beaten, knocked down and killed in ways you would shutter to imagine.

To:
GSPCA GUYANA
Enforce and create Animal cruelty laws in Guyana. We can do it. Guyana needs stricter animal welfare laws. The streets must be cleaned and a special place must be created for animals. Guyana has many empty lots and I know a it won't be hard to reserve one for the Animals. We need a new shelter and more laws. Together we can work towards a better Guyana.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Dogs and horses I think are the most abused animals in Guyana. Every day you can see dogs slaughtered on the roads, it is time the perpetrators be brought to justice, I am praying for this to happen!

This is important to me because abuse to animals in Guyana has reached a climax. Animals suffer in silence under the hands of some humans. A stop must be put to this immediately!
