Because 1 in 5 drugs introduced to the market between 1975 and 2000 were either taken off the market or had "black box warnings" attached to them due to life-threatening side effects--way too late for the unsuspecting people that were taking them and suffered as a result. Reporting of adverse drug events are voluntary, hospitals choose not to make those reports and dangerous drugs remain on the market. The public has no way of knowing that they could be taking drugs that will cause life-threatening side effects. People die as a result.

it is important to know the effects of what certian drugs have on you. Some drugs are more dangerous then the reason you take them for are.

Information about medications on the market should be available to all.

Adverse effects of psychotropic drugs are not well known among the patients, their family members, and even among the health professionals who don't have the access to the information because of language barriers. Mandatory reporting is the base of informed consent.

I have witnessed the suffering of multiple patients with adverse reactions. I recall when Zyprexa came on the market and the drug companies played down the incidence of weight gain and ensuing metabolic disorder. There was no mandatory reporting and therefore, this became a public issue later than sooner. Mandatory reporting will lead to more timely intervention (i.e. change in drug dosing or medication switches).

I'm especially concerned about the harm that is done by psychotropic drugs.
