Support a transparent and healthy U.S.-Egyptian relationship.

    1. Petition by

      American Egyptian Strategic Alliance

I am writing to urge you to support the Post Jan 25th 2011 Egypt and support furthering the creation and protection of a civil society in Egypt which is based on the universal values of human dignity, democratic process, freedom of speech and individual rights.

I ask you, an elected representative of the American people, to extend a helping hand to our strategic ally, Egypt, as it makes its burgeoning transition as a true democratic state.  The U.S. needs to do so in a way that shows a paradigm shift in the U.S. foreign policy that is focused on people empowerment, rule of law, and the peaceful transition of power through the democratic process.  As the most populous and influential state, a stable and prosperous Egypt is critical to the success of U.S. interests in the Middle East.

I believe this is the time for the United States of America as the leader of the developed world, to support the development of a civil administration in Egypt that protects national unity, citizen rights and addresses the economic and democratic aspirations of a nation that is strategically valuable for the United States.

We need to encourage President Morsi and his administration to live up to their promises of an inclusive government.  The sooner we provide the right type of support, the more there will be an opportunity for the United States to be a true partner in shaping the course of the future of the Middle East.  Short of that, the United States stands to lose dearly in a critical region and alienate a great nation.

It is in the best interests of the United States to support the success of the Arab Spring and diversify our economic support model in Egypt, not just to the military establishment for ensuring peace and security, but also to assist the Egyptian people achieve the goals of their revolution.  The Egyptian people flowed to Tahrir Square and around the country to demonstrate for better economic conditions, freedom and social justice.  We should assist them in achieving those goals.

There needs to be open and transparent communication with ALL countries. This is important for our future peace process.

I spent a month in Cairo in 2007. I met so many wonderful people who deserve the fruits of freedom and democracy, and a chance to self-actualize their dreams in a way that has never been more possible for them than it is at this critical moment in their history.

Religious fascism is a terrible alternative to military dictatorship. It is bad for Egypt and the stability of the whole region. It puts Egypt back 500 years instead of an alternative modern civil government that care about addressing the current economic and social disasters.
