Texas Legislature: Return $5.4 billion of funding to Texas public schools NOW!

    1. Petition by

      Save Texas Schools

In 2011, the Texas Legislature cut $5.4 billion from Texas public schools, causing massive teacher layoffs, school closures, larger classes, pre-K cuts and reduced services for at-risk children. They made these cuts citing a fiscal emergency - but now we find the revenue projections were wrong, the cuts weren't needed and Texas has an $8.8 billion surplus, along with almost $9 billion in the state's Rainy Day Fund. Yet top state leaders say they don't want to give a dime back this session, except for possibly funding student growth. Funding for Texas schools is now 25% less than it was a decade ago, and relief from court cases could take years. Texas kids can't wait. Act now to fund student growth AND restore $5.4 billion in funding to Texas schools!

My children are not learning TONS of material and information because of the time this awful test has taken from teaching a solid, traditional curriculum. My children endure such stress that they both are unable to sleep, they cry, and become physically sick before taking this terrible test. TRASH the STAAR!

I am a college student in Texas, and am struggling to pay my tuition now that there have been increases. Those few thousand dollars has made a huge difference. It is a struggle each semester.
