This November, Washington voters will go the polls to decide whether to uphold marriage equality legislation or overturn it. As Oregonians, we know what it’s like to face divisive ballot measures that place our relationships or those of our friends and neighbors up for a public vote.
This is a key moment in the fight for the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian couples in the Northwest and across the nation. For the first time in history, a sitting president has endorsed marriage equality. And here in Oregon, we're successfully expanding support for the freedom to marry in communities across the state.
The tide is turning. But despite this progress, the fact remains that no state has yet to win the freedom to marry at the ballot. Our movement is zero for 32 at the ballot on the freedom to marry. 32 state votes and 32 losses.
That stops now. This is the year we start winning. But only if you lend a hand.
Join Basic Rights Oregon as we help Washington make history and create a climate of change across the Northwest. Oregon is next, and a win in Washington can help pave the way for Oregon to become the first state in the nation to overturn a constitutional ban on marriage as early as 2014. As Oregonians, it is imperative that we help win marriage for our neighbors by investing our time, talents and resources to the campaign.
Sign the petition today and tell Washington families: we've got your back and we’re in it to win it.
