Tell PA Legislators: Stop Special Treatment for the NRA

Dozens of communities across Pennsylvania have worked closely with law enforcement to craft local ordinances that require gun owners to notify police when they discover their gun has been lost or stolen. Since most guns used in crimes are stolen or obtained illegally, it is common sense to report lost and stolen guns. But cities and towns had to take local action because legislators in Harrisburg refused to pass a statewide lost or stolen handgun reporting law.

Why? Because the NRA told them not to.

The NRA has tried to beat these local laws in court six times, including twice in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. But each time, the court has allowed the law to stand. So now the NRA is trying to rewrite the rules so they can win.

If the NRA gets their way, they'll be able to sue these cities again, even though the courts have already said no, and even though nobody's rights have been violated. The NRA wants the power to blackmail cities that are trying to keep their residents safe from gun violence and force them to take back this popular commonsense reform to avoid the risk of costly frivolous lawsuits.

The NRA's lobbyists are poised to force this bill through the House of Representatives but it's not too late to send a message to the State Senate. Make them think twice before double-crossing their own constituents.

Stand against the proposal to write special rules for the NRA and stop them from punishing cities that are fighting back against gun violence by cracking down on illegal gun traffickers.
