Tell Indiana To Require Permits & Oversight for ALL Wild Animal Dealers!

    1. Petition by

      Black Pine Animal Sanctuary

Currently in Indiana, USDA-licensed wild animal dealers (monkeys, tigers, bears, etc.), as well as other dealers (pet stores, commercial dog kennels, etc.) are exempt from state animal care standards and oversight. Passage of this bill will require USDA-licensed wild animal dealers to obtain and meet state permit and welfare requirements.

Indiana's state care requirements are generally better defined to ensure appropriate space, enrichment, and safe containment for captive animals. Local oversight is generally better able to act quickly when animals are neglected or public safety is at risk.

Exotic and Endangered Animals should not be owned by people just because they "want" them as "pets". They deserve to live as GOD intended. Now because of the lack of laws and permits given, we now have and had to have for years... Rescue Sites. Please STOP this cycle.

Dealing in dangerous animals for sell just makes sense that this industry needs to be regulated. The regulation will protect the animals from neglect or abuse and will protect the general public from harm. We had a disaster happen here in Ohio with nearly 50 animals on the loose all around Zanesville. It was a small miracle no humans were harmed, but the bengal tigers, lions, and a bear were all shot dead. After that debacle we now have SB 310 that closely monitors exotic pet owners and Indiana needs the same with SB 477. Don't wait for an Indiana disaster!
