Stop Walmart's Expansion in Washington, DC

      Washington, DC

Walmart recently announced plans to build four stores in the District of Columbia. While the company promises to create jobs and respond to local needs, there is little in Walmart's history to suggest it will follow through.

Additionally, Walmart is notorious for driving a global race to the bottom when it comes to wages and worker rights. For example, in Bangladesh, Walmart has lobbied against wage increases and not done enough to improve safety conditions which most recently led to the tragic death of scores of factory workers.

D.C. residents support a living wage and people nationwide don't define the types of jobs Walmart offers as "good jobs." Write to the DC City Council and Mayor Elect and demand better! Tell them no Walmart.

Walmart drives away business from local stores. Also Walmart purchases their meat from several very inhumane sources. People need to stop depending on Walmart for their groceries or clothes and depend on more ethical stores that will genuinely make a difference. Stores need to focus on the individual's job needs, not make them a cog in a machine.
