Stop the Abuse of Animals Used for Tourist Photos

    1. Petition by

Care for the Wild and Born Free Foundation

In several resorts in Mexico tourists are offered the opportunity to have their photographs taken with various animals, especially young lions, tigers and jaguars.

Despite claims by the organisers of these "photo shoots" – that the animals are orphaned, that any donations received will help feed them and that they are provided good living conditions – the reality is very different.

Most of the animals would have been separated from their mothers at birth, in many cases their claws and teeth may have been removed, or the animals drugged, to lessen the risk of possible human injury.  In addition, many of these animals live in terrible conditions and when they get older, some are killed, and others transferred to roadside zoos or circuses.

Surprisingly this activity is still legal in Mexico. If you believe as we do, that the exploitation of animals as photographic props must END, please add your name to this petition. We are calling on the Mexican authorities to urgently review the legislation that permits this inhumane practice.

Please help and sign this petition!

This is a joint campaign between Faada, Born Free Foundation, and Care for the Wild International's www.RIGHT-tourism.org campaign, offering tourists advice on how to be animal-friendly.

I witnessed this taking place in cabo san lucas and it ruined my experience of this port, the cubs where constantly being handled and were clearly drugged, no wild animal should have to endure this as their life. I have also written this in my review to Holland America as I was very dissapointed they did not warn their passangers of this scam and for this reason I will not be sailing with them again.
