Stop Rattlesnakes Having Their Mouths Sewn Shut at Oklahoma Roundups!

      Jennifer Greve

      Alva, OK

Every year rattlesnakes are tortured to death at Oklahoma rattlesnake roundups. Rattlesnakes are put into a freezer for "about two hours" where their blood begins to crystallize. Their fangs are often ripped cruelly from their mouths before having their mouths sewn shut. They are deprived of food, water and shelter. According to §1685 AND §1680.1 of the Department of Agriculture Cruelty to Animal laws, already on the books, this is felony animal cruelty.

These rattlesnakes are put on display for the purpose of making money allowing hundreds of people to have their photo taken with "a real live rattlesnake". These snakes die within a matter of hours due to lack of food/water, lack of shelter, stress and shock. It is a slow and torturous death.

Let Oklahoma law makers and enforcers know that you find this treatment of animals UNACCEPTABLE. Please contact the following law makers and enforcers in Oklahoma:

Governor of Oklahoma, Mary Fallin 405-521-2342 and 918-581-2801 or email her at https://www.ok.gov/triton/modules/formbuilder/form.php?form_id=2ab143b4bba6b0e9da3235121bf3a7ef73719541e049cc5bcddf8ed1564dac13

This is a great article outlining the consequences of rattlesnake roundups and the potential danger to the public. Please read this article and share it with your friends. You don't have to like snakes to understand the important role they play in nature.

      Jennifer Greve

Oklahoma rattlesnake roundups are over for 2012. We made great progress in spreading the awareness of what happens at these evens. We need to continue to call and write letters to all the people on the list in this petition. Tell them this is unacceptable and urge them to stop this! Make sure you work more on contacting the DAs listed and ODWC. Make sure to be polite and never use profanity. If you can not be civil, PLEASE don't call or write.

Now is the time to focus on making a positive change to the 2013 rattlesnake roundups. We can accomplish our goal if we continue to put pressure on those individuals with the power to enforce the laws. Our goal is to stop the abuse at these events and to have the laws enforced.

Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared this petition! And thank you to all those who have called and written the district attorneys and other people listed in this petition! We are making progress! Keep it up!!!

    7. Thank you ODWC!!!

Saturday May 5, 2012 was a great day for our cause! ODWC conducted an in-person investigation at the Okeene, Oklahoma rattlesnake roundup festival. Okeene does not have snakes with their mouths sewn shut anymore, but they still have terrible conditions/treatment for the snakes. We are so thankful that ODWC is listening to us and conducted their investigation. After ODWC left Okeene, water was dumped on the snakes to help cool them off and help with hydration! That is positive PROGRESS!!!

Continue to sign and share, but don't forget to call and write to the individuals listed on this petition. Speaking out against cruelty is the only way to make it stop!

Thank you to everyone for all of your support! We appreciate each of you!
Special thanks to ODWC for listening and stepping up at Okeene and for their ongoing investigation of that roundup!

There are a lot of things that just aren't done any more because we are more enlightened these days. It's high-time this kind of animal cruelty becomes part of that list. And, I hate to say this, it makes your state look pretty bad, as well.
