Some things are worth getting mad about!

Earlier this week, our recently inaugurated Governor submitted a plan to balance our state budget.

The Governor soberly reported his plan to eliminate 260 more jobs, cut salaries by another 2% and slash our schools by another $500 per pupil.  This year our state will have to cut $1.2 BILLION from our state budget.  In the past three years we have cut $5 BILLION out of our budget.

His proposal is one that aims only to cut our way out of this revenue crisis. In reality we have been divesting in our state programs so much that we are at the bottom of the country for funding in all areas – education, health care, transportation, etc.

Year after year we find ourselves back in this situation.  This is not sustainable, and the Governor provided no options for solving our revenue crisis but he admitted that we have had flat revenue and flat job growth for a decade.   Further, he ruled out progressive options like asking the wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes.

We have decades of fiscal policies that have created this situation and to his credit the Governor stated that our spending and tax issues have been building up for years.

At the Colorado Progressive Coalition we believe it is time for the people of Colorado to have a serious conversation about the kind of state they want to live in.

Do we want a Colorado where we are forced to fire thousands of teachers from schools?  Where our colleges are not accessible to all Coloradans?  Where we ask seniors to pay more in property taxes?  Where we sacrifice basic health care services?

Sign the petition – tell the Governor that it time for real solutions that don’t hurt Colorado communities.

Don't let Wall Street bank on our apathy! It is time to take action!

As I write this, thousands of everyday people across the country are coming together to demand that big banks and their CEO’s Pay US Back.

Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo executives earn just as much today as they did prior to the financial crisis. In 2010, the CEOs of these three banks made almost $50 million dollars combined. Compare that to a recent census report that revealed that in 2010, there were more than 42 million people living in poverty, the highest recorded number in 50 years.

There is a Showdown coming to the Mile-High City!

We are hitting the streets of Denver to demand that Wall Street Banks Pay US Back. We will use a week of high-profile, exciting direct actions designed to take the pain and misery out of our neighborhoods and place it squarely in the offices and homes of the worst perpetrators of this financial crisis. JOIN US!

I'm disturbed by your budget proposal. More jobs cut, and more salaries reduced. It's time we "bite the bullet" and raise taxes, particularly for the wealthiest among us. It's time to stop balancing the budget on the backs of the poorest in our state.

Friends and family who attended the large rally downtown this past weekend have encouraged me that we are not going to keep taking all this insanity lying down. How we continue to have billions sucked away for foreign war-crimes and supporting bloated militaries like Israel's is beyond the pale. It is not lost upon the people how hypocritical it is to critique other rogue governments for their corruption and violence when the US is far and away doing the most widespread and morally repugnant damage to the hopes of human beings for authentic democracy... liberation from tyranny... sensible shifting to an economic and justice system that aren't wholly controlled by 'corporate persons' who clearly have no heart or conscience when it comes to humanity or the planet's welfare. Please please do not become another robotic yes man for the insatiable juggernaut of folly. We can do better if given the chance.

There is plenty of money in Colorado to supply the state's needs. Ever heard of a graduated income tax? Come on - get with it - get your money from the people who are swimming in it.

Much of the financial crisis was caused because both parties did not work for the regular person. Get some backbone and ask the wealthy to pay their share in taxes.
