Save the Post Office: Extend the moratorium on closing post offices

    1. Petition by

      Save the Post Office

The Postal Service has targeted 4,500 post offices for closure and 230 processing plants for consolidation.   The Postmaster General says he plans to  close half of the country's 32,000 post offices over the next few years.

The closings and consolidations won't save the Postal Service — they'll destroy it.  Tell Congress and the President to extend the moratorium on closings beyond May 15, while the country has a more thoughtful discussion about the future of the Postal Service.

it is most important not to close this sorting and collection/post office as to get to the Southend on Sea one is very very difficult. buses and then still to walk a distance, a lot of people cannot do this.

i mail a lot of small packages. the Post Office is cheap, fast and reliable. having to use a less reliable and more expensive service woyuld make this impossible. Also, the last thing we should be doing in a crisis of demand is eliminate well paying jobs. Please don't harm the economy further for no good reason.

This is a sign of the times. You can thank Bill Gates and other computer gurus for the many thousands of people who will be unemployed. There is simply no longer as much of a need for the service. Email is free for now anyway!

The PO should NOT have to fund anything that corporations and other companies do not....this is just a power play by private contractors to decimate the PO

I am a postal worker who has 17 years of service. I have been reduced to a 30 hour week, 6 days a week.
