A family of four; Claudia Londono, Juan Martinez and sons Sebastian Martinez (13) and Camilo Martinez (4) faces possible deportation to Colombia by the Canadian government. They have a very high chance of being killed if they were to return to Colombia.
Claudia was a government psychologist treating inprisoned members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, (FARC) and now her family is in grave danger because of it.
Another chilling letter, signed by a FARC commander and addressed to Londono last year states they know where she is, she does not “deserve to live” and they will see her again “just like it happens with everybody.” The letter, written in Spanish, was sent to Londono’s mother. This and several other written threats were filed along with their claim for refugee in Canada.
NDP leader Jack Layton’s office contacted Immigration Minister Jason Kenney on behalf of the family asking for help. A spokesperson for Layton said Kenney’s office wrote back that the request was denied.
The Canadian Government can't deport them because it goes against one of their laws. If the family is in direct danger of being tortured or killed, then it is Canada's civil duty to keep them safe. Fight for this.
IT IS NOW OUR TURN TO TRY! Save the Martinez family it only takes a second to sign. The petition will be presented to Minister Jason Kenney in hopes of his approval.
