Save The ALAMEDA ANIMAL SHELTER From City Budget Cuts

    1. Petition by

Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter

The City of Alameda is looking into closing the Alameda Animal Shelter again for budget reasons. The city believes they can outsource the needs of the shelter to neighboring cities. Those cities are already overcrowded. The Alameda Animal Shelter does not euthanize for time or space. Adoptable animals stay until they are adopted or taken into rescue. The City will still have to pay to transport animals out of the city AND residents will have to travel to that city to reclaim their family pet.

Please send this petition to everybody you know that has a family pet in Alameda. YOU can help defeat this once again!  These results will be forwarded to the proper authorities.

If the Alameda shelter closes, this is going to result in more people abandoning or dumping their pets. A lot of people don't have cars or are not willing to drive to another shelter to surrender their pet or turn in a stray animal.

Last summer I adopted my awesome cat, Milo, from the Alameda Animal Shelter. I can't imagine such a great place being closed down, leaving Alameda without a no-kill shelter. I hope the city finds other ways to balance its budget besides on the backs of our four-legged friends.

Budget cuts that impact the most vulnerable and voiceless among us so negatively are unethical. There are other, better ways to save money. You can tell a lot about a community by the way we treat our animals. Alameda is not heartless! Countless animals will suffer and/or be killed if you close this shelter.

Closing this shelter will result in more adoptable animals being euthanized at neighboring, already overcrowded shelters. Please find another way to balance the budget.

Please keep this place open, it is not the animals fault. They are here to make us happy and be our "best friends"
