Save Maya

    1. Amy Quinlan
    2. Petition by

      rochester, NY

Maya was being walked on a leash when she was approached by an unleashed smaller dog. The owner of the small dog saw them sniffing each other and shouted, and her dog snapped at Maya. A dog fight ensued, and the owner of the small dog stepped in the middle of it and Maya accidently bit her on the upper arm. Maya is now facing a dangerous dog trial. She was confiscated by Rochester Animal Services for a 10 day rabies quarantine, even though she is up to date on her vaccines. The 10 days ended 5/22 and they have refused to release her. RAS does not have an order from the court to hold Maya. The Lexus project is handling Maya's case.

Dogs are family. And frankly, there's no such thing as dangerous dogs, just dangerous owners. If you step in the middle of a dog fight of course you're going to get bit. And the smaller dog instigated the fight. Maya doesn't deserve to be harmed because people have uninformed prejudices about certain breeds of dogs. Anyone who thinks Maya is dangerous has obviously never owned a dog rumored to be one of these "dangerous breeds"

This has happened to other dogs and they were held for months only to be released because there was no just cause. These animals should not be kept from their families and left to languish for no good reason.

Maya like so many other animals is the product of BSL....she looks like two of our Reunion Rescue dogs Buster and Princess....if only everyone would follow the Reunion Rescue protocol, our pets would be safe and there would be no need for these petitions.

I was bit by a dog many years ago and I did NOT pursue any legal issues with the owner. She should be released to the owner. Since May 22? That is terrible.

I am an advocate because pit bulls are wonderful dogs if raised properly. Shame on the lady with the off leash dogl.
