Save Santa Cruz Harbor Access

    1. Petition by

      Craig Stanton

      United States

The historically free public, hand-launch docks at the Santa Cruz Harbor are utilized by thousands of members of the public each year, launching kayaks, small sailboats, one-man outriggers, stand-up paddleboards and more. The $10 fee would end free, safe public access to the harbor and to the Monterey Bay via the harbor. Save Santa Cruz Harbor access - repeal the fee at the hand-launch docks!

Planning to take up sea-kayaking. This fee would put a crimp in my dreams.

The harbor is a safe place to learn. Adding $10 to the already expensive rentals needed for learning about paddle surfing, kayaking, etc is cost prohibitive to many. It encourages people to use less safe means of access as well. It simply not the right way to generate revenue.

This new fee will encourage dangerous launches and possibly costly rescue efforts.

Growing up, free access to Monterey Bay was my refuge. It gave me a health outlet and I feel todays kids from low income families deserve the same. It stimulates an interest in ecology and creates civic pride. There are better sources of revenue.
