Webb has been suspended until further notice by school officials for writing a poem about the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Webb says her poems are therapeutic way of expressing herself. School officials clearly overreacting by suspending Webb who has stated that she nor her poem is in agreement or in support of what Adam Lanza did in murdering innocent people.

In support of the student who has the empathy and expression to try to understand the true nature of today's society and it's horryfying impact on all human lives equally. It's truly unfair violating one's right to free speech that too when it was personal poem. Everyone is capable of good and evil. Totally agreeing with the need to always explore both the light and dark sides of human nature to be able to find the real truth and cause of the issues!

This issue is important because what took place in this situation with Courtni Webb is a attack on our youth. Courtbni Webb is courageous is should be commended for her bravery. I think these people that was apart of condemnation should be punished for there actions. It is unfair to make a innocent child feel like a monster for speaking the truth. This behavior is unacceptable and should not be tolerated by no one.

Poetry got me through tough times as an adolescent. How else does one work through the frustrations of life and learning how to be a civilized adult?

I am a teacher of English in a UK high school, and a father of four children. I cannot pretend to understand the trauma of those who lost loved ones, or the killer's reasons, but I do know that it's vital to listen to young people, and to talk about what happened and how to bring good out of it. If Courtni Webb used poetry, (poetry, not a public statement or threat!), to find the language with which to express her response to such horrors, that is her right and I applaud her for it. It is also her right to keep her private writings private. If Courtni Webb had wished to publish her poetry, as a means of sharing her thoughts and feelings, or to prompt discussion of such terrible events, that is equally her right, and I applaud her for it.

What on earth are we doing when we teach our children that it's a grave offence, (so grave that they should have their education denied them), to explore this matter through creative writing? So much of Western society pivots upon this awful occurence - social cohesion, mental health, violence, legislation and so on. Surely we need and want our young people to think and investigate, in whatever ways helps them to heal themselves and our communities.

Censorship is alive and well and living in America. Sigh.
