Plastic bags are an unnecessary environmental hazard since many eco-friendly options exist like paper or canvas. We can break ourselves of the plastic bag habit. Some governments and retailers have begun to take steps to phase out plastic bags. San Francisco banned them six years ago, and many countries have either banned or taxed them.
I hope our city can be another shining example responsobility. I encourage you to take a stand and add Kings Beach to the growing list of cities and towns that are banning plastic bags.

We all need to be on board and it's a small effort on our part to preserve the beauty of nature that surrounds us. Step up and make a difference for our kids and the generations that follow us.

Plastic does not dissolve; it breaks into tiny pieces and stays there for up to 1,000 years, contaminating soil, waterways and oceans and entering the food web when eaten by animals. At this size it is eaten by every single organism in the world's oceans including the great Blue Whale.

Plastic bags are harmful to the environment, land animals and sea animals, they are made from petroleum, and they are a serious litter problem since they are non-biodegradable.
