Require the oil and gas industries to observe the Clean Water Act

    1. Petition by

      Art Glick

      Renick, WV

The coal, oil and gas industries should be required to observe the Clean Water Act, just like the rest of us.  To require this would finally put an end to the incredibly destructive practices of Mountain Top Removal and Hydro-Fracking.  Industry hacks claim these practices are not harmful to the environment, but if that was true, then they wouldn't need the pass on the CWA that the Bush-Cheney administration granted them.

It is long past time we started getting stricter on regulating the coal, oil and gas industries. They should not be allowed to brush off laws that are designed for the protection of the people. Mountaintop removal is harmful and coal mining is unsafe, unhealthy, and environmentally disastrous. Hydraulic fracking is extremely harmful, to the environment and people as well. Industry needs to be brought into line on these issues and more. Stricter penalties must be implemented for breaking the law, and the industry's bribery of government officials needs to stop as well. They don't just need to obey the Clean Water Act, we need a harsher, more defined Clean Water Act. These industries need to stop riding in the back pockets of politicians. Make it stop. Now.

Fracking (aka, hydraulic fracturing or industrial gas drilling) is a dangerous way of getting oil and gas and a shortsighted energy strategy. It's poisoning our air and water and on its way to jeopardizing the health of millions more Americans. THIS IS ALREADY NOT ALLOWED IN MANY EUROPEAN countries..we want true clean energy. and this is not one of them. when my husband retires from the military we plan to buy a small family farm. the last thing we want is to live near one of these places. you wouldnt do it so why expect anyone else to. the owners of the oil companies dont live or vacation or eat or drink anything that comes or is around these places.its time to start treating everyone equal. keep your promise..
