Require Each Chicago Police Officer To Take Concealed Carry Weapons Sensitivity Training.

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has said “I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained… putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.” Make Garry McCarthy train his Officers how to interact with law-abiding gun owners. Illinois will have concealed carry in 2013. We must make sure that the law-abiding gun owners are safe when dealing with Chicago Police. Garry McCarthy has said that "firearm owners who lobby their representatives, or who donate money to political campaigns, for pro-Second Amendment issues are guilty of corruption and of endangering public safety." Will law-abiding gun owners be gunned down by Chicago Police Officers? What is Garry McCarthy's message to his Officers? Police Officers in Illinois already receive training in human relations, cultural diversity, including racial and ethnic sensitivity. Chicago Police will obviously need sensitivity training for dealing with citizens who are carrying a firearm for self defense.

As a sworn officer with over 20 years experience I think McCarthy's comments are asinine and display a contempt of the law abiding citizens he purports to serve.

I am a handicapped Chicago resident who has no desire to be murdered by over zealous, trigger happy cops who can't wait to "teach me a lesson" and "put me in my place" for daring to defend myself.

I find it troubling that Superintendent McCarthy has no respect for the legislative process and lables citizens who contact their Congressional Reps about issues they feel are important as corrupt. Could it be that he has grown so used to the "Chicago way" that he no longer recognizes how government is supposed to act in a legal way?

Judging from his track record, this man has no business even being around firearms, let alone carrying one. The term unprofessional doesn't even come close to his brazen disregard for public safety. I have no idea how he became the Police Superintendent in Chicago, but he really needs to be replaced with a credible candidate. The trait of leadership completely eludes him.

Should sensitivity training for Chicago Police officers to deal with law abiding citizens who choose to carry a firearms for protection be implemented? You betcha!!

As a former law enforcement officer and now a Firefighter Paramedic, I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly in people. I have worked as a public servant since I was old enough to serve the people of my community. I have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution of The United States, and I will always do so! I would never threaten a law-abiding citizen with the thought of being gunned down and murdered by an armed Police Officer for exercising their Second Amendment Right. For McCarthy to call gun rights advocates corrupt because they support politicians who stand up for the Constitution, is like calling all those people in that church corrupt for supporting their freedom of religion! Mr. McCarthy, I think it is time to stop blaming the rest of the State for Chicago's violence. If you can't do the job then get out!
