USE THE HASHTAG #LEGALISEITAUSTRALIA WHEN POSTING ABOUT CANNABIS ON SOCIAL NETWORKS TO HELP SPREAD THE CAUSE.

It is time to form together as the people of this country and demand this to go forward, if we can spread this petition and get enough signatures we can bring it to the attention of the Australian government after all of these years of trying, let's actually do it!

The illegal drug industry is a multi-billion dollar a year industry, all of the profit going to criminals and dangerous organizations. If cannabis were legalised and regulated, the cannabis black market would be entirely eliminated and the immense expenditure on both the war on drugs and the sale of drugs could be turned to far more practical applications like the health & educational systems.

In an ideal world, cannabis would be taxed and regulated much like alcohol and tobacco are today. It would be produced in many forms including pre-rolled cigarettes and food products which could be consumed responsibly by citizens within the law.

The legal sale of cannabis would be a significant financial boon both to private citizens who choose to enter the industry and the government who can, and should, tax it. The taxes generated by legal cannabis sale would be more than enough to fully fund a thorough and expansive drug treatment program, helping those who wish to quit (other illegal drugs) and rendering aid to those who need it. The money saved on police budgeting from the war on drugs could also be more wisely spent, allowing police to focus on gangs, violence, organized crime, and the prosecution of dangerous, violent criminals.

The city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands is viewed as an overly-progressive, lazy, sin-drenched city by the opposition, however nothing could be further from the truth. The standard of living is very high, legitimate business including coffee shops where cannabis is sold and consumed account for a strong economy, and the crime and murder rate is one of the lowest in the world. In short, cannabis has been legal and regulated there for many years and the walls have not burned down.

The regulation of cannabis also allows for many health benefits to those who use it. Modern science has shown that all vertebrates, and even some invertebrates, actually make their own form of cannabis-like compounds inside the body. These chemicals are used to stimulate internal cannabis receptors and control a wide variety of important physiological processes. Studies also show that a lack of actively stimulated cannabis receptors will cause the body to stop functioning properly and develop any number of conditions.

Fortunately for science, the receptors also respond to cannabis chemicals originating from outside the body. Because real cannabis is illegal to work with, researchers have created artificial cannabis chemicals to test on animals. Studies show that when applied correctly (not smoked), these chemicals are able to have a positive impact on many forms of illness that currently have no known cure. These include many types of cancerautoimmuneneurodegenerativeinflammatory, and age related diseases. Today, cannabis is illegal, so there is no regulation of what the drug contains. Unwary buyers of the drug often get more than they bargain for when cannabis is laced with other drugs and other harmful additives. If it were legalised, not only would this harmful practice never occur, but the products themselves could be heavily regulated for health concerns including filtering, and specialized growing and manufacturing. Packages of the legal product would be emblazoned with warnings describing any health risks involved.

Australian citizens use cannabis every day. Many of them are in every other way law abiding citizens. Protect the freedom and health of Australian citizens. Demand that our country Re-legalise and regulate Cannabis for personal, medical and industrial uses.

The biggest petition ever presented before the Australian Parliament was part of a campaign in 2000 against a new
tax on beer. The petition had 792,986 signatures and was part of a
multi-million dollar corporate campaign which successfully convinced
the Senate to block the tax.

But you don’t need to be funded by big corporations to make an impact!

We have set the goal to 1 million signatures. There are over 20 million Australian citizens and according to http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/lif_can_use-lifestyle-cannabis-use/ 17.93% of our population smoke cannabis. Based on those figures we believe 1 million signatures is easily achievable.

Legalising it would save money in the courts, affect organised crime and help patients who need it not to mention the tax recieved for governments

This is important to me because I believe this is where we need to go as a coutry. We already have legal cigarettes and alcohol and yet the far less dangerous PLANT Marijuana is still illegal.

      Ridiculous.

I think this is important because it is less harmful then alcohol and can bring excellent revenue to the government where they are trying to scare us by telling us that the Labor party put us into so much debt where they are using more money then the labor party did per week, legalise it, regulate it and tax it so us adults can use a product that so many of us already do

It should definitely be made available for medical use. The benefits are well documented, but the uselessGovernment is in bed with the Medical profession and Big Pharmaceutical Companies.
