On April 17, Kevin Sanders ran into the flames in West, Texas with his fellow firefighters and EMS workers. They were going to put out a blaze but lost their lives. Kevin was an important and much loved person, to whom many of us are indebted. On June 14th, 2013 when the new Superman film comes out, we are asking the City of Chicago to light up the skyline for her native son, who gave his life to protect others.

      Petition Organizer

Now that the services for Kevin have ended, the media has decided to go home, and everyone is beginning to move on. Now is the time to build up our momentum, write letters to the governor, the mayor, your alderman, your congressman, etc. Recognition of our heroes is something we don't do enough of, please help us keep this moving by contacting someone: to sign the petition, to call a friends, to spread the word.

We are putting together a paper petition to take to local firehouses and police stations. If you'd like access to one of these petitions, please email me at msgcahill@gmail.com.

      Thank you!

With the wake and the funeral, I know that so many will be busy. It's wonderful to see the way Illinois is honoring Kevin. He certainly deserves the recognition of his bravery and sacrifice. I'd like to try and keep the momentum going, we can continue to honor our hero.

We've stalled a bit just before 700, can we do another round of sharing? I spoke to the director of the cultural affairs and special events office for the CIty of Chicago and he gave me some wonderful tips so I'll be moving on that. The biggest impact are people telling the building owners that we want this, that we recognize the importance of honoring a hero, and that we want them to participate in our recognition. Can you help us do that?
