Prime Minister: Introduce issues about homosexuality into the Curriculum

      HULL, United Kingdom

If our country is going to lead the way on gay rights across the world then my belief is that our future generations should be educated around the topics. There are so many issues that young homosexuals face that people have absolutely no experience in and I believe that we are in a society where this can change.

Prime Minister
Make more explicit the issues surrounding homosexuality and other non-heterosexual sexualities in the National Curriculum, as well as push free schools and academy's to cover such subjects as part of their curriculum.

Homosexuality is a part of life. And pretending it doesn't exist is one of the most stupidest things you can do. Lack of information breeds ignorance. So Gillard, grow some balls (metaphorically speaking :P) and help prevent this topic from being a taboo in schools.

Kids are supposed to learn from teachers what their prejudice and ignorant parents don't. But when they teach the same thing, how is the kid not supposed to end up a homophobe?

Because sexuality is hardly ever discussed as part of the school curriculum, and if it is it is briefly brought up, and then dropped. Although only a small percentage of the population are LGBT, many teenagers question their sexuality and more information is needed. Teenagers need to feel as though they are not alone, and sexuality shouldn't be such a taboo topic. I also believe that it shouldn't just be homosexuality that is discussed; teenagers should be taught about different sexual orientations such as bisexual, pansexual or asexual, as well as being transgender. Despite homosexuality being mostly accepted in Britain, it is still a topic that is repressed at school.

Homosexuality is a topic that should be discussed in the classroom. It is something children should know about, and learn to respect hay people as much as they would straight. Transgender issues should be covered too.

Too many tragedies happen because people are ignorant of LGBT issues. Education would be a step in the right direction.

Obviously not everyone is going to be happy with their kids being educated about LGBT, but parents who don't want their kids learning this should not prevent it from being taught to others. Those parents should just request their kids are left out of those lessons, just as when I was at school parents had the option to request we were kept out of Sex Ed.

Because people should be allowed to love whomever they want to. People are generally accepting of homosexuality nowadays, but there are still a select few who remain prejudice. Introducing this topic to schools would be a step in reducing prejudices that children can learn from others, and help people to become more accepting of one another, no matter who they want to be with.

How can we claim to have a tolerant society when our children have to figure out sexual orientations themselves because we can't rely on the parents? You're forcing children into confusion when they feel attraction to the same sex, it makes no sense not to.
