Carbon Monoxide Affects/ Exposure in Animals:
In order to be humane, every euthanasia technique must result in painless, rapid unconsciousness, followed by cardiac or respiratory arrest and ultimately a timely death without violent , elongated suffering. The American Humane and the Animal Protection Institute consider carbon monoxide unacceptable .
The horrific experience of convulsions, muscle spasms, chest pain, internal bleeding, fighting for breath, screaming, biting themselves where painful and other animals and trying to escape can continue as long as 45 minutes or longer and may have to be repeated several times for those who did not succumb. The very young, sick, pregnant, injured and old ones can take longer and then sometimes they are incinerated when still alive after suffering the trauma of CO. It is a terrible thing to imagine and it pains me to type these words; thinking or visualizing it, making me sad and more angry that this barbaric practice is still being done, everywhere.
