My brother is a boy with Autism, and has been denied a place in our local high school support unit.
Most students in his class received acceptance into Glenmore Park High school halfway through the year, and it was only recently that my Mum was notified that my little brother has been declined entry into Glenmore Park High school and instead has been placed in a school 9km away which my Mum is unable to get my brother to and from. The government's solution was to put my brother in a taxi to get to and from school, but it should be blatantly obvious that a child with severe Autism would not cope in that situation.
Not only is Glenmore Park our local high school, but kids in my brother's current class received a place in that highschool when they don't even live in the area.
They refuse to give us a reason as to why they placed him in another highschool. After my Mum had made multiple phone calls, they told my Mum that their decision was a fair one, but still did not give an explanation.
If they continue to refuse to place him in Glenmore Park highschool, my Mum will be unable to get a job after studying to become a librarian. Not only are they making her life extremely difficult and creating a lot of stress for her, but they do so without giving a reason.
My brother should have had first priority to be accepted into the support unit. Their discrimination makes me sick.
Please take a moment to sign my petition to ensure my brother can have a future and share it with others so they can sign as well.
