Family members should be allowed time to call and tell each other the terrible news of someone's death before it is online or on TV. It is wrong to make the death of someone a news story including their name within an hour or two of their death. No one should find out their loved one is dead from a news story on television or the internet. I am sending this petition in my father's name, Robert E. Gale, who was killed in a motorcycle accident. His name was in internet news stories within an hour of his accident and was on television within two hours. Many family members, including myself, found out he was dead this way. News organizations should be held accountable for this terrible reporting practice.

I got a call from Assemblyman Barclay's office today. He represents my Mother's are in upstate NY. They are looking into what happened, and agree that the media is overstepping their bounds. He would like to sponsor legislation to strengthen the guidelines to laws which will help reign in the press. Hopefully, we will make some headway! Thank you to Assemblyman Barclay!

All families should be told first about the death of a family member,or the media should use common sense while reporting sensitive stories and withholding names.Have some respect!

This is so disrespectful, and heartless of the media to also who gave them the info until next of kin was notified.
