The Government is gutting the snapper fishery - daily catch limit could soon be as few as two snapper. Let’s put a stop to this madness.

Petition organised by: Brendan Horan, Independent MP. Cnr Totara & Rata Sts, Mt Maunganui 07 574 0253 brendan.horan@parliament.govt.nz

It's vital we ensure recreational fishers have continued access to the snapper fishery and to reject the Government’s plans to alter the daily bag limit of nine fish.

A more viable option would be to leave the maximum catch alone, extend the minimum size to 30cm, increase minimum mesh sizes, focus on dumping, and properly enforce regulations including those applying to foreign fishing vessels in New Zealand waters.

Because every recreational fisher person i know, Is catching fish for their tables, and even if you only like the fillets you can guarantee someone will eat the heads and frame.nothing goes to waste.unlike on those big trawlers.

Tidy up the existing regime in the first place. The level of abuse within the commercial fishery is unacceptable, and unsustainable.
