New Haven Board of Aldermen: Do not sell city streets.

    1. Petition by

      Tim Holahan

      New Haven, CT

A city's public spaces are its primary assets. No third party should be given the power to close off areas that have been held in common since New Haven was incorporated. This sale would be a mistake on any terms, a grievous one on the terms offered.

To:
New Haven Board of Aldermen
Please do not proceed with the sale of city streets.

Permanently abandoning public spaces to a private entity is not in the city's interest. Their future value cannot be realistically assessed. As they are part of the commons, the public should be directly consulted via referendum before they are sold to a third party.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

as a Yale Alum and long time resident of New Haven, I believe it would be counter productive in any area I deem valuable, for either of my beloved parties: my city, my college.

This city belongs to it's inhabitants!!! Selling pieces of it would be like selling pieces of your home. Imagine that........
