      Albuquerque, NM

In November the voters of Albuquerque overwhelming voted (67% in favor) to raise the minimum wage in Albuquerque to $8.50/hr and to $3.83/hr for tipped employees. Not only does the Owner of the Route 66 Malt Shop on Central Ave , Eric Szeman, refuses to pay his employees the new minimum, the City of Albuquerque stated that "‘The city is not responsible for enforcing this because it is a “self help” ordinance.” An employee could potentially file a lawsuit against his or her employer". http://www.kob.com/article/stories/s2935132.shtml) The City of Albuquerque should enforce the the ordinances on the books, tell the Mayor to enforce the ordinances of the City of Albuquerque.

It's wrong to steal from the poor, even if it is legal with a less than living wage.

It is time for your administration to stop selective enforcement of many ordinances and laws... in this case there is no legitimate reason to allow one pig-headed individual to violate the legal rights of all of his employees and even less reason for you to allow such blatant disregard for the will of We the People to continue.

The economy in Santa Fe jumped forward as employees spent the increased minimun wages they earned. 67% want to pay a living wage!!!! Theri employees can afford to buy what they produce.

Although this is one of my most favorite restaurants in town, I think it's important to raise minimum wage. People don't know how hard it is to survive on a minimum, part-time job in this economy. And you can't just pick up a second job with the economy and job market the way it is. It's unfair to intimidate your employees like this, and it's bad for business!
