Reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy

We, the Scouts and community members of Marin County California urge the Marin Council to reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy.

I am a father of two young scouts, a den leader and long time Eagle Scout. I was unfortunately privy to discriminatory practice from the BSA at a very early age. A staff member at the summer camp my first year of staffing was no longer permitted to staff the second year. This experience has clouded my view of Scouting. A cloud that had me second guessing my sons initial participation in scouting, my participation and certainly any funding of scouting. A cloud that makes me incapable of moving forward with the way things are.

Among service organizations, the Boy Scouts are increasingly isolating themselves with their discriminatory policy. Organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, as well as the 4H Club all welcome gay kids as well as adult leaders.

We love the Boy Scouts, but we can’t support this policy. That's why we urge you to speak out against the ban on gay Scouts and leaders and adopt an inclusive policy like other troops, packs, councils, and lodges across the country have done -- so the Boy Scouts can maintain its relevancy, improve recruitment, and truly live by the principles it teaches its members.

NOTE: We encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a current or former Scout or leader, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section. Thanks!

Being extremely proud of my Eagle Rank, grateful for my time in Scouting, and the many things I learned because of it. I think that it is extremely important for this opportunity to be available to as many people as possible. Being that Scouting is already multi-national, racial, and including of religious preference it would seem to me obvious that a policy regarding sexual orientation will only further all types of discrimination. The thing that baffled me the most is that the same officials across the country who are dealing with the fallout of the all the problems that the 1% of those same officials caused by their gay-pedo tendencies. And what do those officials decide to do, ban all gay members. Hasn't worked for the army or the Church or California, probably isn't going to work Scouting either.

I have a gay step-son and it would break my heart if I thought he could not participate as any other child could just because of his gender. God created all of us to his likeness and that includes gay, lesbions, drunks, freaks, etc.

I'd like my son to participate in scouting like I did but I want him to respect all people.

Gay, Straight, White, Black and so many other differences we are so furtunate to share in this world and the Scouts are teaching hate and not to accept people's differences. So so so so so not ok for them to choose what's right or wrong for any of us!!!

As the father of a wolf cub who loves Scouts but also cannot understand why the Scouts hate his uncles, I beg that the Marin County Council reject the BSA anti0gay policies and rhetoric. Ignoring BSA is not enough.
