Kasey Dunn: WE WON! Today Vaughan City Council voted, and a pet ban was passed! Vaughan will no longer allow the sale of pets from retail outlets!

I was recently at Vaughan Mills when I came across Safari Pet Centre. I was shocked to see puppies in glass displays lining the storefront. When I inquired about where these puppies come from, and what their lives are like in the store, I discovered a disgusting truth. It is still legal to sell puppies and kittens in pet stores in Vaughan!

The puppies in petstores do not come from registered breeders - stores put profit before animal welfare by contributing to an industry of puppy mills and commercial breeders.

Please put an end to this practice, and pass a by-law to stop the sale of puppies and kittens in Vaughan!

http://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/safari-pet-center-stop-selling-puppies https://www.facebook.com/StopSafariPetCenter Pet overpopulation is a global problem. Everywhere, everyday healthy pets are euthanized. They are destroyed. Killed by lethal injection. Put down. Put to sleep. There are not enough homes. But they continue to be produced at an alarming rate. Why? Because puppies = profit.

According to Vaughan city councillors, the city's bylaws are soon to be reviewed. Let's encourage them to consider the changes made in cities like Toronto and Vancouver to make selling puppies in pet stores illegal!

Please ban the sale of dogs or cats that do not come from a municipal shelter, a Humane Society or a registered rescue group. Dogs kept and bred in puppy mills are subject to inhumane living conditions and health problems. Their potential owners might not be informed and prepared to handle such pets that might have special needs as a result of their origins. Thank you!

From a Canadian currently living abroad....

So many wonderful animals exist already and require a home - they can be found at shelters and human societies across the great province of Ontario.

Pet shops selling dogs are opening the gates for cruel and inhumane treatment of animals in puppy mills. Please help put an end to this practice.
