Don't Divide the 11th Council District!

The 11th City Council District of Los Angeles is a unified, compact district with natural and sensible boundaries. It makes no sense to divide its communities, ripping apart neighborhoods, and destroy the strong partnerships shared by the Westside and coastal communities. It is particularly disturbing to tear Westchester and Playa Vista into two, dividing them from Los Angeles International Airport and Playa del Rey. Westchester, Playa del Rey, Playa Vista, and LAX are inextricably linked, sharing a neighborhood council, a community plan area, and a chamber of commerce. We need to keep the 11th District whole and intact!

The commission is continuing to hold public hearings throughout the City, and will hold its last one Saturday, before going to work to revise the maps.

      • On Wednesday, February 15, at 4pm, the full Commission will meet to vote on adjustments to the Draft Map and provide direction to its staff on how to make changes for its recommended final map. The commission will then produce a revised citywide map and revised individual council district maps. It will be made public by Saturday February 18.
      • The Commission will meet again Wednesday, February 22 at 4pm. At that time, the Commission will vote on the proposed final map.

On Wednesday, February 29 at 4 pm, the Commission will meet for the last time, to formally send its recommended map the City Council for consideration. Commissioners will have the opportunity to submit minority report statements to be included as part of the Final Report to the City Council.

Thanks for your interest and energy, and for the powerful voice you have brought to the process of redrawing the lines of the Los Angeles City Council districts. The overwhelming response to the proposed maps has been astounding. This is a community that knows how to organize, and how to make its voice heard!

Here is an update on the process:

      Westchester Hearing
More than 700 people turned out for a jam-packed hearing February at the Westchester Recreation Center, speaking with a united voice, and telling the Redistricting Commission that it is unacceptable for them to divide Westchester, tear it from LAX and Playa del Rey, and amputate it from the 11th District. We were joined in our effort by the strong voices of Councilmembers Bernard Parks, Eric Garcetti, and Jan Perry. I think the commission heard us loud and clear.

    8. Details on the Public Hearing/Detailed Map

      Bill Rosendahl
      Petition Organizer

The Los Angeles Redistricting Commission is holding public hearings on its draft mao, including a meeting Thursday night, February 2, 6:30 pm, at the Westchester Recreation Center, 7000 W Manchester Ave, Westchester, CA, 90045. Please note: this is a different location than previously advertised. They needed to move to a larger venue to accommodate the expected crowd!

Also, here is a link with a more detailed version of the commission's proposed maps. This version shows street names. As you an see, this detailed version keeps Playa Vista in CD11, and also keeps LMU in CD11 -- but it cleaves the neighborhoods around LMU from CD11, and places them and 80% of Westchester in CD8.

As an individual who grew up in Westchester all her life and am now a resident of Playa del Rey, it is outrageous to even consider separating these two intertwined communities just for bureaucratic nonsense. We are ONE community. Always have been, always will be if we stand together as one Playa Westchester community.

      I absolutely oppose this redistricting!

The proponents of this biil should be ashamed of thhemselves. Affecting so many people's lives for political gain is selfish and unethical.

Westchester is a single community of interest. Being in the same council district as LAX is vital.

I don't believe in or want the redistricting. I want to keep our Westside, coastal district whole.
