Los Angeles City Council: Take Down the Illegal Digital Billboards Now!

    1. Petition by

      TakeThemDown.org

The time is now to right the wrongs of the past, and to take our city back!

The settlement agreement between the Los Angeles City Council and CBS Outdoor & Clear Channel Outdoor led to the city's landscape being littered with over 100 digital billboards, none of which were allowed under our City's own laws.

After almost 6 years of litigation, the Court of Appeal has finally ruled that the agreement was illegal and that the permits for those illegal billboards must be revoked.

At the same time, Councilmembers Krekorian and Alarcon, at the urging of CBS and Clear Channel and their lobbyists, have passed motions that purport to circumvent the Court of Appeal ruling and to whitewash and preserve these illegal digital billboards instead of have them taken down.

The illegal settlement agreement was a stain on our Council, a harm to our residents and neighborhoods, and an insult to the rule of law. Now is the time for the City Council to have these illegal billboards taken down - not to preserve them.

VICTORY!!! Supreme Court Denies Review in Summit Media v. LA

The jig is up for the illegal digital billboards in L.A.!!! Finally, after 6 years of litigation, the digital billboards time has come. CBS Outdoor and Clear Channel Outdoor had one last chance to reverse the decisions against their illegal digital signs, and that was to have their case reviewed by the CA Supreme Court.

More letters & lawyers from Clear Channel Outdoor

As if one letter threatening the City of Los Angeles with financial ruin weren't enough, Clear Channel had to send out multiple such letters to different officials and from numerous lawyers and law firms, just to make sure that the City gets their point that they really like the money that these illegal digital billboards make, and they will be very, very angry if these illegal billboards are removed.

    5. Study says digital billboards are too distracting

What is the LA City Council thinking when it is considering preserving the current 100+ illegal digital billboards, or allowing more digital billboards in the city? They cannot be thinking that this move will improve the residents' traffic safety and aesthetics.

      They're an urban blight!

This is important because Clear Channel Outdoor is now focused on Massachusetts. Put them out of business. Now that the billboards have been ordered turned off, reinforce the billboard ban and enforce the laws.

These signs are a blight on our city and the sign companies are in violation of the law.
