Kate Varva, AGCO; Victoria Angelow, LAT: Quantifiable support for Tori's Bakeshop liquor license application.

    1. Petition by

      Tori's Bakeshop

Tori's Bakeshop, a vegan bakery and coffee shop by day, wants to add a wine bar feature at night in the same space. We plan to separate these entities, such that alcohol won't be available during our normal daytime service. In the spring, we received preliminary approval from the AGCO and the City of Toronto for a liquor license. However, on May 7th, we received a single letter of objection, from our neighbor across the street. We've worked for the last three months, enduring excessive cost and delay, to mediate this conflict and assuage his concerns, to no avail. He will agree to no compromise, and persists in working to deny us a liquor license completely, making every use of possible postponement in the interim. We want to show at our License Appeal Tribunal hearing that he is the single objector, and that overwhelmingly we are supported in our desire to convert to an upscale wine bar at night, featuring vegan, organic, and biodynamic wines. We are not seeking to increase capacity, license a patio, or do anything other than to continue positively supporting our local Beach(es) community, in an additional manner.

To:
Recognize the quantifiable support for our liquor license application.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

As a local business owner I've been thrilled by what Tori's Bakeshop brings to the Beaches Area. Tori's breathes fresh life into a neighborhood that has needed new blood and a fresh slant for some time, making the area not only appealing to potential residents, but day trippers as well. I see no harm in allowing this license to go through. Tori's and their customers are not a troublesome sort, but rather quite the contrary, indicating they have much respect for the area and would not do anything to disrupt it's quiet charm. I feel that denying this license is definitely a step in the wrong direction for a strip that desperately needs to boost it's presence in Toronto as a year round destination.

As someone who enjoys vegan food and wine, why would I not support this? For someone to object to this is ridiculous. They would be expanding the market for organic wines and growing the community. There needs to be more places like this!

This is important for me, because, as an avid beach-go'er during the day, their is really no reason for me to come exploring in the late day and evening, although their are some nice restaurants in the beaches area their is not a quiet, relaxing place that I can sit and enjoy an after dinner glass of wine. If Tori's bakeshop were to open a wine-bar I would most definitely make evening trips to the beaches for dinner followed by a stop at Tori's. What a great idea to have an ethical wine bar in the beaches!

Tori's is one of my favorite venues in the Beach. They've created an incredible atmosphere and their staff are excellent. Absolutely the type of classy operation I'd like to see running a wine bar in our neighborhood!

I love this place and visit every time I come to Toronto. Great staff, great location, great service and this would help their business and be a great addition to the neighborhood.
