**Update 5/5/11**

The Florida session ends tomorrow and our bill for the greyhounds is in jeopardy.

The Florida House of Representatives has sent the greyhound bill back to the Senate for another vote!  Please CALL BOTH your Senator as well as the Senate President NOW and ask that she or he VOTE YES TO ACCEPT THE HOUSE VERSION OF THE GREYHOUND BILL.

Senate President Mike Haridopolos may be reached at 850-487-5056.

Find your senator by going here: http://www.flsenate.gov/senators/find

Please also send a polite e-mail to our Senate Sponsor, Maria Sachs, and ask her to bring up the House version as soon as possible.

We have one day left to help the greyhounds.  Please act now!

HB 1145/ SB 1594 will decouple the cruelty of greyhound racing from other forms of gambling, removing the legal requirement that dog tracks host live racing in order to be licensed. This groundbreaking legislation is endorsed by humane groups all over the country. If approved, it will significantly reduce, and possibly end, greyhound racing in the Sunshine State.

As long as dog racing continues, greyhounds will suffer. These gentle dogs are kept confined in warehouse-style kennels in cages so small they can barely stand up or turn around. When let out of their cages to race, they face the risk of serious injury. Dogs have even been electrocuted while racing in Florida.

Please join us in signing this petition.

Finally, please make a designated donation to our Florida campaign. No matter where you live you can help end dog racing.

Greyhound racing is a losing proposition. Not just for the dogs, who are treated more like slot machines with legs than living animals. And not just for the gamblers who haven't figured out that the odds aren't in their favor. But the tracks...

Having owned two of these rescued, lovely animal friends I believe that they need our protection from the abuse they suffer at the hands of racing owners. I may believe that these dogs love to run, but the conditions while they race and their treatment after they are 'retired' is unconscionable.

Greyhound racing is animal abuse. The dogs are forced to live in deplorable conditions, are mistreated, and many of them are killed when they now longer can race due to extensive, painful leg injuries and because they no longer can bring a profit. Please sign the petition to stop this horrific exploitation. We need to put a stop to such suffering in all states!

although i am not from Florida i support this petition as a pet owner. No animal should have to suffer living in such a manner. With the amount of money that are around these dogs... it's pretty sad to see that they are not appreciated in any way. Even though animals can't speak... they can feel and show emotion. And all these people can say is HEY!! F you for winning the race today!!! it's pathetic Good luck Florida with your bill! i hope it passes!!!!

Greyhound racing is animal abuse. When their racing days are over, they are killed or discarded. Ban greyhound racing!
