Everyone gets sick and everyone deserves the opportunity to recover without risking income or job loss. More than 700,000 Maryland workers cannot earn paid sick days and often go to work sick, send sick children to school or daycare, or in the worst situations, lose their job because they cannot come to work.

In jurisdictions where state and local standards allow workers to earn paid sick days, surveys show workers' lives improved and businesses succeeded.

Having shown national leadership on marriage equality and fair treatment of immigrant children, Maryland has the opportunity to turn its attention to the plight of workers who are unable to earn paid sick days.

People who are sick need to be able to stay home without loosing their jobs. It is good for the worker and for the production.

If you want healthy workers they must get health care when they are sick. If a worker does not get help they may work until they are so sick that they are out of work so long they get fired. It is the "use them up and throw them away" philosophy which is dangerous to a caring society.

We all get sick, so we all deserve the right to recover with paid sick days.
