Johns Hopkins Commencement and Graduation Committee: Give us a female 2013 Hopkins Commencement Speaker

Over the past fifteen years, Mayor Bloomberg has spoken twice at JHU commencement ceremonies. Over the same period, there have been only two female commencement speakers. No woman of color delivered an address during this time. Let the university administration and commencement committee know that it is time for our speaker to reflect our diverse student body. Sign this petition, email commencement@jhu.edu, and schedule an appointment to let the university know that this is unacceptable! See our university's history for yourself here: http://www.jhu.edu/~commencement/archives/speakers.html

I believe that it is important that women and people of different ethnicities be given the same outstanding opportunities as everyone else. A commencement speaker should reflect the diversity of their audience.

The lack of diversity in the list of commencement speakers is fairly remarkable. Please give this petition serious consideration.

As a woman of color graduating from Johns Hopkins, I would love to feel empowered by my graduation speaker. There is no reason why a women are given this honor and responsibility so infrequently.

As a woman entering the workforce, I would love to hear from an inspiring, strong woman about her journey through life.
