February 2013

From Petition Creator: Jeffrey Rembert received the maximum 30 years to life on aggravated murder and 11 years on aggravated robbery running consecutively. His first chance at parole is in 41 years. This is the sentence we were hoping for as life without parole is often thrown out for juveniles as it is considered cruel and unusual punishment.

On July 14, 2012 Jacqueline Gavorski (age 65) was brutally, viciously and heinously murdered & robbed in her own driveway in South Euclid, Ohio by Jeffrey Rembert. Jackie was not only a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother & sister, but she touched many, many lives in the community.

At a hearing on January 30, 2013 Jeffrey Rembert entered a plea of guilty to aggravated murder and aggravated robbery. As Jeffrey Rembert was 16 at the time of the murder he is not eligible for the death penalty; however, has been bound over as an adult. Should Jeffrey Rembert be given minimum sentencing he could be paroled while he is still in his early thirties. We ask that you sign this petition asking for the maximum sentence according to the law be applied to this case.

Further details of the case follow. There is also more information that is updated regularly on the memorial Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/JacquelineGavorskiMemorialPage?ref=hl#

Thank you!

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — A 16-year-old male, Jeffrey Rembert is in custody following the suspicious death of a South Euclid woman.

South Euclid Police found Jacqueline Gavorski, 65, dead in the driveway of her Ardmore Avenue home early Saturday morning, July 14, 2012 after a late night trip to the store. She was just feet from her own back door.

Lt. Jeff Meyers told Fox 8 that Jacqueline Gavorski suffered blunt force trauma to her head.

Saturday morning neighbors woke to crime scene tape and flashing police lights.

“[My neighbor] just told me what happened, that his wife was dead, and he just broke down crying,” said longtime resident D.J. Dohanyos.

Police say Gavorski’s husband was asleep inside the home when it happened.

Dohanyos says Gavorski has three adult children of her own, but really was like a mother to all of the neighborhood children, especially around the holidays.

“It’s horrifying that somebody could do that to someone so wonderful. I’ve been living on this street for 18 years, and she was wonderful to my kids, always bought them gifts for Christmas, Easter and Halloween. I mean it’s just a real tragedy,” he said.

Robbery was the motive.

The 16-year-old in custody has been charged. Police say he lives just a few blocks from Gavorski.

I was so suprised to see how open Mrs. Gavorski's backyard is. It is wide open really nowhere to hide. How brazen of her murderer to lay in wait !!! I am outraged not only that he invaded the privacy of Mrs. Gavorski's own yard but also showed so little concern for human life. What a shame, especially for the Gavorski Family. I hope that the murderer is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
