An event that is meant to promote the unity of mankind across all races, creeds, and lifestyles should not be allowed to be held in a country that has made it government mandate to persecute a specific group of people. The Russian government has put into effect legislation that makes it illegal to "promote homosexuality to minors". What this essentially means is they can arrest anyone who is gay, or even accused of being gay, for any action they feel promotes homosexuality, even holding hands in public. AND, the legislation allows for them to detain tourists for up to a day for the same acts. How can a nation that promotes such abhorrent polices be allowed to host an event that promotes unity?
