Illinois: The Silver Tsunami Is Here, and We Need Your Help

      Caring Across Generations

A silver tsunami is upon the United States: Every eight seconds, someone turns 65. For Illinois, the silver tsunami is already here. We are not ready; we need your help.

I've watched my parents struggle to care for my elderly grandmother. They tried their best to juggle their careers and my brothers’ and my school schedules with providing care for our grandmother. When my grandmother fell, my parents were forced to make painful choices about admitting her to a nursing home. My family is not alone. Every day, families throughout Illinois are faced with similar decisions about how to live and age with dignity and independence. It's in honor of my grandma and my parents that I'm joining with a group of other Illinois locals to deliver a petition to Senator Kirk and Senator Durbin, asking them to call on Congress to create a care system that supports caregivers and makes quality long-term care affordable and accessible.

Will you join us in asking Illinois Senators to support Senate Res.128 which calls for the creation of a long-term care system?

I am currently caring for my elderly parents so they can stay in their home and not be put in a nursing home. the care for his caregiver/aid is $1500/WEEK! while we are getting 33 hours per week paid thru Community Care (Dept of Aging), its not enough and eventually they will be on Medicaid and have to go in a nursing home.....family values?? We are his family trying to care for them at home but the system is financially bleeding them and will soon leave them impoverished
