1. As the petition started growing, the orgaisers called us for a discussion on how we can work together.

2. The organisers agreed to let us set up 20-25 water stalls where we can serve water in paper glasses or re-usable bottles. Additionally we also have a 10 minutes slot before the event begins to encourage people to use only paper glasses and request them to reduce the amount of waste generated.

3. On the day of the event we worked with the organisers to ensure the event is plastic free.

The Hyderabd 10K run generated tonnes of plastic waste last year choking protected regions around the Hussain Sagar Lake that are being restored.  Not only this severely impacts the progress of restoring the lake but is also waste of tax payers money in having to clean up the trash left behind.  Let’s demand the organisers of the HYD10K run to make the event plastic free & sustainable.

Our Parents, friends and fellow residents of Hyderabad pay taxes punctually. A part of this money is being used for the “Buddha Purnima Project” under which the surrounding areas of Hussainsagar Lake have been declared as special development zone for taking up the following activities

a) Orderly growth of lake.

b) Environmental up-gradation.

c) Development of the identified areas for special purposes.

The recreational pockets of BPP such as Lumbini Park, NTR gardens, Laserium, Necklace Road, Peoples Plaza and Hussainsagar Lake have become star attractions of twin-cities for all tourists, both local and outsiders. These pockets are under the administrative control of the Buddha Purnima Project (BPP).

The amount of trash generated from the 10K run is not so healthy to the city. Last year, the used mineral water & energy drink bottles choked various pockets around the lake. The city administration had to use loads of OUR tax money to clean up the trash which was left behind.

This year, lets ask the organizers to make the Hyderabad 10K run “Truly Hyderabadi” by making it sustainable. We humbly urge you to have an environment friendly 10K run, which:

1.    Doesn’t use plastic water bottles! Use steel tumblers or paper cups instead. Your high profile participants use the same at their homes!

2.    Doesn’t harm the BPP Pockets which are being environmentally upgraded. Let us value the work of the project officials.

3.    Gives a message: Say no to Plastic for a better Hyderabad!

4.    Stands as an inspiration for the organisers of other public events in the city.

Dear Organisers and partners of “Hyderabad 10K Run” Let us not test the threshold limits of mother Earth! Let us have a “Plastic Free” 10K run. We are with you to support!

Thank you for supporting our campaign and helping us win.

Taking note of the petition, we were called in for a discussion with the organizers of the Hyderabad 10K run. After our discussions, the organisers agreed to let us set up 20-25 water stalls where we can serve water in paper glasses or re-usable bottles. Additionally we also have a 10 minutes slot before the event begins to encourage people to use only paper glasses and request them to reduce the amount of waste generated. The organizers will also ask the participants to bring their own water bottles.

Every day, across the world, people like you start campaigns on Change.org to fight for issues they care about. If you see other opportunities to help fight pollution like this, please do start your own campaign on Change.org and we'll support you just as you've supported us.

    2. We Won! Hyderabad 10K run to work with CLeaIN to make it plastic free!

After 788 people showed their support for having a "Plastic free 10K Run in Hyderabad", the organizers of SBH Hyderabad 10K Run have come forward to take action. The organizers now are working on reducing the plastic waste generated during the run through various means. Participants who have registered for the run will now be asked by the organizers to carry water bottles.

They have also asked CLeaIN to pitch in for some help. CLeaIN would be setting up a few stalls along the track of the run to serve water in paper tumblers and re-usable plastic bottles with the support of students working for "Carbon Credit Race". We are now working on mobilizing the youth in Hyderabad to spread the word. We are also working with a few local organizations to collect and recycle the paper cups used.

Thanks a ton for your support. We WIN!

      Cheers,
      Team CLeaIN.

Plastic is a menace everywhere - especially in a country like India where the majority of people have no sense of environmental hygiene.

Plastic is polluting. It is also a waste of money to use and throw bottles when there can be better systems put in place to give water to the participants. We are blindly following western practices of creating waste and showing consumption to increase our GDP and our production values.
